In this course, we use two different systems to
mark tone. One is called
Full tone marking,
the other Economic tone marking.
In the Full tone marking system,
every tone (high tone and low tones) and all occuring downsteps are marked.
The idea of Economic tone marking goes back to Christaller (1875: 15):
It reduces tone marking while retaining all the relevant information.
